Missile tech flows to North Korea disguised as academic research

Over 100 suspected U.N. sanctions violations, 80% linked to China

North Korea is strongly suspected of using joint research with other scholars in other countries to develop missile and other military technologies, a Nikkei investigation has revealed.

In recent years, a panel of experts examining the implementation of sanctions against North Korea by the U.N. Security Council has been closely monitoring North Korea's collaboration with Chinese researchers.

Analysis of data on academic papers has raised suspicions that North Korea is openly importing missile technology, mainly from China, under the guise of academic exchange.
