JAKARTA -- Indonesia's incoming president, Prabowo Subianto, on Wednesday pledged that his government would eliminate poverty and create good jobs, calling on the country's politicians to work together for the nation.

Prabowo, currently defense minister, was, on the same day, formally declared president-elect by the General Elections Commission after the country's Constitutional Court rejected appeals lodged by rivals for a rerun of the Feb. 14 presidential election.
