BEIJING -- China began live-fire exercises near its border with Myanmar on Tuesday as it presses the country's military and armed ethnic groups to abide by a January truce brokered by Beijing.

Ground and air forces under the People's Liberation Army Southern Theater Command are practicing rapid deployments, precision strikes and other operations over two days.
