BANGKOK -- The Association of Southeast Asian Nations called for an "immediate cessation of violence" in Myanmar's western Rakhine state and eastern Kayin state more than a week after resistance groups attacked military bases in Myawaddy, a vital hub for border trade with Thailand.

Foreign ministers from the 10-nation bloc urged parties to the conflict to ensure the well-being of civilians and delivery of humanitarian aid.
